Marqués de Riscal Reserva
A pioneering company that bottled the first Rioja wine in 1862 and went on to become the first non French winery to wine recognition at the Bordeaux Exhibition in 1895. Marqués de Riscal is based in the Álava province of Rioja and are famous for their striking hotel designed by Frank Gehry and their collection of wines dating all the way back to the first vintage bottled in 1862.
The Reserva spends 24 months in American oak barrels and then a minimum of 12 months in bottle before being released. There is a lovely subtle hint of the oak-ageing with notes of liquorice and sweet spice balanced with ripe, concentrated fruit. A complex wine that shows the beauty of a classic Rioja.
