Mas d’en Gil is one of the most prestigious wineries in Priorat, and is one of the most exciting Spanish DOs of the moment. The estate benefits from slate soil, a micro-climate of broad temperature ranges and warm, humid air from south easterly breezes. Taking advantage of the unrivalled natural conditions of the land and combining tradition and technology, they now produce unique and complex wines.
Clos Fonta is made from old vines (planted between the 1930s and 1970s), grown on slate rich soil. The wine spends 14 months in barrel and is then further aged in bottle for 36 months.
On the nose, the intensity of the Clos Fontà Priorat is pronounced as it shows complex aromas of ripe black fruits and spices, with balsamic and mineral notes in the background. On the palate, this is a powerful wine with rich flavours, good acidity and a strong, persistent finish.
