The culmination of 90 years of winemaking experience, over three generations, Bodegas Peique are located in the tiny village of Valtuille de Abajo which is nested in the slopes of El Castro de la Ventosa in Northern Spain.
Mencía, a local red grape, has been compared with pinot noir and gamay for its fruitiness. It’s also high in acidity, so perhaps is not for everyone. This example is well crafted, with medium-full concentration, a lively berry core and dollop of dry earth. Great for serrano-ham-based tapas, fatty fish such as salmon, or grilled pork chops.
