Created in 1973 and situated on the outskirts of Logroño in Rioja Alta, Bodegas Olarra’s winery is known locally as “the Cathedral of La Rioja”. The clay and chalky soil of the vineyard is watered by both the rain and the river Ebro, while the area also benefits from warm sunshine and the climatic influence of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
This wine is aged in new oak for a minimum of two years, giving it a deep colour with ruby glints around the rim. It has a delicate balance of aromas on the nose, beginning with ripe red berries which mingle with smoky nuances and hints of spices. On the palate it is full and round, with a lingering, smooth and elegant finish. We think this Gran Reserva is exceptional value.
